Ferula

Ferula

a genus of umbelliferous plants, including ferula asafoetida, that yields pungent oils and resins used formerly as carminatives and now as cat and dog repellents. A related plant, f. Galbanum, is used similarly. F. Foetida is used as a fresh vegetable.
