noun, plural: environmentalists

One who advocates for the protection and conservation of the environment from human misuse, destruction, or pollution.

Environmentalists are concerned with the protection and preservation of the natural environment for its own sake and for the coming generations.


Word origin: environmental < environment: Middle English envirounen, from Old French environner, from environ, round about + -ist.
