Detritivore

Definition

noun, plural: detritivores

An organism that feeds on detritus or organic waste.


Supplement

Examples include millipedes, woodlice, dung flies, many terrestrial worms and burying beetles.

By consuming dead organic matter they speed up decomposition by increasing the surface area available to detritivoric bacteria.


Also called: detrivore, detritus feeder.

ok, simpler terms, one turns it into poop, the other turns it into simpler organic compounds. For example detritivore=vulture decomposer=bacteria Feel free to update the definitions on our dictionary if you think it would help others understand, it's a wiki after all :)

Fungus?

Check our dictionary detritivore- Animal that consumes decomposing organic particles, deriving nutrition primarily from microbes on the particles. And of course a decomposer is a dead musician :D:D:D
