I know that it is able to convert phytoene straight into lycopene (whereas in a daffodil the enzyme 'pytoene desaturase' [PDS] is needed to convert phytoene into zeta-carotene, which is then converted into lycopene by the enzyme 'zeta-carotene desaturase' [ZDS]). ...
