... the same as the day I cut them, which got me wondering that maybe evergreens, because of their slow decay have a smaller carbon footprint then deciduous plants.

deciduous and evergreen species of Magnolia

I wondered whether the different species had become either deciduous or evergreen according to the climate in which they developed, but is it temperature or humidity or both that affect that development?
