Dachshund

(Science: zoology) One of a breed of small dogs with short crooked legs, and long body; called also badger dog. There are two kinds, the rough-haired and the smooth-haired.

Origin: g, from dachs badger _ hund dog.

The oldest dog on record was an Australian cattle dog called Bluey. He was put to sleep at the age of 29 years and 5 months. on average : Miniature Dachshund - 14,4 Toy Poodle - 14,4 Whippet - 14,3

I had a purebred standard dachshund that lived to be 29, just a couple months shy of 30. She probably would've made it to 30 if she hadn't fell in and drowned in our pool. She probably fell in from weak legs due to her age. She was neutered ...

... I wonder what criteria are being used to define them as different species. If a paleontologist a milliion years from now dug up a skeleton of a dachshund and one of a St. Bernard or pehaps an English Bull dog with its stocky body and squashed up snout, would these greatly differing specimens ...
