Jalapenos VS> Serranos

Look at the bottom of Serrano page. They are both listed under C. annum. That means, that they belong to the same species, but are different cultivars. Now, there is question, what you mean by the same thing, species, cultivar, actual thing?

I was actually thinking that it was a cultivar of Cyclamen persicum The cyclamen commonly sold by florists and mass produced as pot-plants are cultivars of C. persicum.
