Cotransport

Cotransport

(Science: cell biology, physiology) The linked, simultaneous transport one substance across a membrane, coupled with the simultaneous transport of another substance across the same membrane in the same direction.

The transport of sodium from high to low concentration can provide the energy for transport of the second species up a concentration Gradient.

See: secondary active transport.

polar transport of auxin

According to the text that is used for the bio course I TA, auxin will enter cells via a cotransport protein and two protons, which will set-up the gradient required for the auxin to enter the cell. Once in the cell, auxin will disperse to the bottom of the cell and ...

SOS...please help, Na+/H+ pump problem

... out like a sore thumb. Its probably pretty simple, but I dont have a clue as to how to go about it. here it is: Animal cells often use Na+ as a cotransport ion to regulate the internal concentration of H+. How many H+ can be transported for each Na+ that moves across the membrane? Use the following ...

effect of glucose on cell membranes

... in the same direction? does glucose have an effect on the electron gradient? perhaps it's presence induces influx of Na+ ions, an effect of cotransport.

Glucose and cell permeability

I think the effect of glucose on permeability has something to with its cotransport with sodium that creates an electrochemical gradient.
