Cisterna ambiens



Latin term for ambient cistern, a cistern of the subarachnoid space between the posterior end of the corpus callosum and the superior surface of the cerebellum.


The ambient cistern is sometimes defined as including the quadrigerminal cistern, and connecting to the interpeduncular cistern.

Also called: ambient cistern.

Synonyms: Bichat's canal, Bichat's foramen, cistern of great vein of cerebrum, cisterna superioris, cisterna venae magnae cerebri, superior cistern.
