Chlorophyll a

Definition

noun

A type of chlorophyll that is most common and predominant in all oxygen-evolving photosynthetic organisms such as higher plants, red and green algae. It is best at absorbing wavelength in the 400-450 nm and 650-700 nm of the electromagnetic spectrum. Its molecular formula is C55H72O5N4Mg.

Supplement

There are different forms of chlorophylls existing in nature. Some of them are:

They all reflect the green light but the slight differences in their structure cause them to appear in different shades of green. For instance, chlorophyll a is a blue-green pigment.

Do AFA bacteria contain chlorophyll?

... they've put bold claims about the 'healing' power of those 'algae'. One thing I found interesting is that they claim that AFA contain a lot of chlorophyll and I thought photosynthetic bacteria don't have chlorophyll. So the question is, where can I check that for sure? And ultimately, do AFA ...

Re: green wavelength in plant photosynthesis

... on this head to write a bit in my report. will it change the colour of its leaves? Blue and Red are the major parts of the spectrum where chlorophyll absorbs light. This doesn't mean that green light isn't used at all, especially by other pigments such as carotenoids. I would expect that ...
