Cereolysin

(Science: protein) cytolytic (haemolytic) toxin released by bacillus cereus. Inactivated by oxygen, reactivated by thiol reduction (hence thiol activated cytolysin). Binds to cholesterol in the plasma membrane and rearrangement of the toxin cholesterol complexes in the membrane leads to altered permeability.
