A horizontal cleft formed between the commisura fornicis (or psalterium) and the corpus callosum when the two commissural plates failed to fuse completely during fetal development.

Supplement

It is also called Verga's ventricle, named after the Italian psychiatrist and neurologist Andrea Verga who first described it in 1851. The Verga's ventricle is not a true ventricle since it did not develop from the central canal of the nueral tube and it does not contain cerebrospinal fluid nor it is lined by ependyma.
