Carboxyl group

Carboxyl group

-COOH group. One of the oxygens is double-bonded to the carbon atom, making it a carbonyl group, and the other oxygen is single bonded to the carbon on one side, and single bonded to the hydrogen on the other. The remaining bond on the carbon atom is attached to the rest of the molecule. Organic molecules containing carboxyl groups are an important, major group of compounds studied in the field of organic chemistry.

Re: Proteolysis of protease

Not quite all the answer. Understand that proteases refers to a large group of enzymes - each of which has a specificity - based on amino acid ... charge, size, etc. For example trypsin cleaves peptide chains at the carboxyl side of the amino acids lysine and arginine, except when either ...

Re: Peptide bond

... pretty sure i figured it out...becuase of the pH values in cells, the carboxyl group and amino group are ionized so the carboxyl group loses a proton and the amino group ...

Peptide bond

Ok this is probably a stupid question but...In a peptide bond, does the carboxyl group of the amino acid donate an O and H+ and then the other amino acid donates one H+ from ...

possible peptide formation and ratio of acid to base

... the ratio of conjugate base to acid form for each of the ionizable groups of glutamic acid in a medium of pH 4.0 -when calculating the ionizable groups of a amino acid, do you condisder the R-group or just the carboxyl and ammine groups? pH = pka + log [base]/[acid] since pH < pka ...
