Dictionary » B » Brown fat Brown fatDefinition noun Type of adipose tissue in mammals that contain a dark pigment. Its main function is to generate body heat. The adipocytes contain several smaller droplets, higher number of mitochondria, and more capillaries than the adipocytes in white adipose tissue.
The brown fat is rich in newborns and in hibernating mammals.
