Dictionary » B » Blood viscosity Blood viscosityBlood viscosity The internal resistance of the blood to shear forces. The in vitro measure of whole blood viscosity is of limited clinical utility because it bears little relationship to the actual viscosity within the circulation, but an increase in the viscosity of circulating blood can contribute to morbidity in patients suffering from disorders such as sickle cell anaemia and polycythemia. ![]()

Results from our forumConnection between opioid receptors and fatty acid receptors... Some outtakes: Blood vessels were regulated by some of these receptors. Bradykinin widens ... fat it could widen blood vessels or block blood coagulation to minimize viscosity. For example omega-3 polyunsaturated acid inhibits blood coagulation. ...

Re: please help! understanding resistance: decreasing or increas... is whether all the factors in combination (vasoconstriction/dilation, viscosity, vessel cross sectional area, length, ect.) function to decrease or increase the velocity of the blood. Velocity varies inversely with pressure or MAP in this case.
