Epilithic algae field handling and shipment back to lab... the epilithic algae grew on. Anyone have experience dealing with epilithic algae? Besides shiping the rock back, any other methods? Is using razor blade to get the algae off the rock a good idea before shipping? I want to be able to both extract the DNA out of the algae and culture the population ...

Need help preping for exam... (algae) are flimsy in comparison to trees, etc. The water provides support. They don't have roots because they don't need them. Instead algal blades sometimes have holdfasts which simply keep the blade attached to the rock. The blade-water interface is where the algae can get most of its nutrients. ...
