Any of the organic molecules produced by living organisms.


As organic molecules, biomolecules consist primarily of carbon and hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. Examples include proteins, polysaccharides, nucleic acids, amino acids, DNA and RNA found in living organisms.

Word origin: combination of bio- + molecule.
