Biological Indicator

Biological indicators are species which can be used by observers to determine how various conditions in an environment have changed over time. The peppered moth is a good indicator of species, because its wings change colour depending on how polluted the area is, white moths having lighter wings. This is an evolutionary adaptation called industrial Melanism.
