Benzoic acid

Benzoic acid

C6H5COOH;occurs naturally in gum benzoin; it is used as a food preservative, locally as a fungistatic, and orally as an antiseptic, diuretic, and expectorant. It is excreted rapidly as hippuric acid.

Synonym: benzoyl hydrate, flowers of benzoin.

Hi, thanks for the response. I used that website to find out that they do inhibit the enzyme but my question was how do they usually inhibit enzymes? Do they have a sort of mechanism? Eg do they denature the enzymes by deforming the active site?
