1. Any substance, especially. Food, used in catching fish, or other animals, by alluring them to a hook, snare, inclosure, or net.

2. Anything which allures; a lure; enticement; temptation.

3. A portion of food or drink, as a refreshment taken on a journey; also, a stop for rest and refreshment.

4. A light or hasty luncheon.

(Science: zoology) bait bug, a crustacean of the genus Hippa found burrowing in sandy beaches. See Anomura.

Origin: Icel. Beita food, beit pasture, akin to as. Bat food, Sw. Bete. See bait.

... so I am almost positive the Quadruple dropout media I am using is satisfactory (-Ade, His, Leu, Trp). The fact that I've tried two different baits as well as controls (with the same results) indicates that autoactivation of the bait is unlikely (as far as I know). Any help anyone can give ...
