Results from our forumGram Positive Cocci... might be micrococcus luteus or something which is the same as micrococcus Kocuria, I believe. Try using the Bergy's manual of determinative bacteriology. Good luck and if you can take a look at mine and help me out that would be great!

gram negative cocci. please help... it won't tell you if it's Gram negative... For determining your bacteria though, you should consider using "Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology". It's pretty helpful.

Re: What do you call a species only detected once in nature?... specimen and then publish on what is grown in a laboratory. Anyway, like I said in the OP, I imagine this is a fairly common occurrence in bacteriology, virology, mycology etc. and I was wondering what scientists usually do when they discover a single specimen of something new.
