(Science: embryology) Having an abnormal closure or absence of a body opening or tubular organ (for example, a child born without an oesophagus would have an atretic birthdefect).

How to "delay" a woman's menstrual cycle?

Since a cycle where follicles form but no ovulation occurs (I think it's called an atretic cycle) will delay the end of the cycle, I would think that estrogen input around the normal ovulation time would do it as well. Not sure why you'd want to, though...
