Askanazy cell

(Science: pathology) abnormal thyroid epithelial cells found in auto immune thyroiditis. The cubical cells line small acini and have eosinophilic granular cytoplasm and often bizarre nuclear morphology.

Synonym: hurthle cell, oxyphil cell, oncocyte.
