Any of the numerous protozoans of the group Apicomplexa, characterized by having a special organelle called apical complex, single-celled, parasitic, spore-forming and reproducing sexually and asexually in alternate generations.

Of, or pertaining to (a species of) the Apicomplexa.


Supplement

Apicomplexans are sometimes taken as synonymous with sporozoans. At other times sporozoans are regarded as only a subset of the apicomplexans.
