Anther

Definition

noun, plural: anthers

(1) Pollen-bearing structure in the stamen (male organ) of the flower usually located on top of the filament of the stamen.

(2) Plant structure containing the pollen.


Supplement

Anthers bear the pollen, which when mature is set free by anthers bursting open (dehiscence) or sometimes forming pores.


Word origin: from Ancient Greek anthera, feminine of antheros "flowery," from anthos "flower".

... is very rare. Haploid sporocytes were first reported in Datura stramonium (q.v.). The frequency of haploid plants can be greatly increased using anther culture (q.v.). Homozygous diploid plants can then be generated by treatment with colchicine (q.v.).

DNA restriction map drawing...

... only 1 alone but 2 when together with EcoRI.... so is it circular or linear fragment? how could i locate the site unambigously with respect to one anther? any uncertainty with respect to the map?

There are many other biochemical tests that can be performed anther easy one being a catalase test. There are a few good microbiology lab manuals out there.
