Ankylosis

(Science: orthopaedics, rheumatology) fusion of bones across a joint. Complication of chronic inflammation.

See: ankylosing spondylitis. Abnormal adhesion and rigidity of the bones of a joint.A condition where joints in an animal such as the elbow or knee that are unable to operate to their potential, as a result of a wearing down of the joint surfaces.
