Ångström Anders Jonas

(Redirected from Angstrom anders)

Ångström, Anders Jonas

The Swedish physicist and astronomer (1814-1874) who is known for his pioneer works in spectroscopy. The unit of length (Ångström unit) and the crater of the Moon (Ångström) are named in his honor.

Using spectroscope with photography he proved that the sun's atmosphere contains hydrogen. He also created a spectrum chart of solar radiation in 1868 where he expressed the wavelength of visible-light spectra in multiples of one ten-millionth of a millimeter (or 0.000,000,1 mm), which became known as Ångström unit.
