1. (Science: botany) a genus of plants of the ranunculus or Crowfoot family; windflower. Some of the species are cultivated in gardens.

2. (Science: zoology) The sea anemone. See actinia, and sea anemone.

this word is sometimes pronounced n-m-n, especially by classical scholars.

Origin: L. Anemone, gr, fr. Wind.

thanks for ur inputs, im sorry its fuzzy if only i had a macro lens!! but i looked up that anemone and there were no tentacles that look like that, but then again i could be mistaken. quite interesting though :)

Oh btw your other "tube like things" I believe are Pachycerianthus fimbriatus . They are a tube dwelling anemone that live in mud and sand. They have brown/black tentacles that stick through. I think this is what it is, though your picture is a little fuzzy, so I could ...

Any ideas what this is??

... they were attatched to some kind of rock nderneath? we couldnt pull them out. Curiosity was killing us haha. Any ideas what they are? some sort of anemone perhaps? Thanks!
