(Science: biochemistry) a pathologic condition resulting from accumulation of base or from loss of acid without comparable loss of base in the body fluids and characterised by decrease in hydrogen ion concentration (increase in pH).

When someone is vomitting, they are vomitting up acid. You are losing H+ in the body, and this cause an increase in pH which results in metabolic alkalosis. Also, there will be increase in bicarbonate. Hope that helps.
