What is the role of oxygen in mitochondria?

In the process there, O2 as I remember becomes an electron-acceptor and so to complete the entire oxidation process but of course only for the aerobic organisms.

Respiration

I want to ask how the electron transport system work in aerobic respiration. I don't know how the redox potential of the coenzymes affect the process.
