Genome evolution... can we work backwards to trace this down to the original DNA combination? Or possibly estimate "times" of change? I'm guessing that adaptations come about to solve an evolutionary problem therefore, can we interpret that information to tell us about the environment at specified time? ...

Re: Theories - Origin of Life... acquire a beneficial trait from a random mutation. You simply meant that you didn't think beneficial mutations sufficient to account for complex adaptations. Why is knowledge on phylogeny important... a nice template for evolution. By looking at the insect phylogeny, it may give insight to when the relationship developed, because many of the adaptations for co-evolution are phenotypic changes. Hope that helps!
