5-Methylresorcinol (a 5th position methyl ester) has lower toxicity compared to other resorcinols, compound used in manufacturing fluorescent, leather dyes and adhesives, and in pharmaceutical to treat acne, an anti-dandruff agent in shampoo, and sunscreen cosmetics.
