(pathology) Abnormal skin dryness charactized by dry, scaly, cracked and itchy skin; xerosis of the skin, especially in the arms and legs; ichthyosis


The skin that is excessively dry is described to be xerotic. Several factors bring about xeroderma. Some of them include dehydration, Vitamin A deficiency, atopic dermatitis, and hot, humid environment.

Word origin: Greek xeros (dry) + dermia (skin)
