twelfth cranial nerve --> hypoglossal nerve

(Science: anatomy, nerve) The hypoglossal nerve enervates the muscles of the tongue.

lesions of the twelfth cranial nerve result in deviation of the tongue toward the paralysed side and thick speech.

Synonym: cranial nerve XII.
