In electrocardiographic tracing, it is the superimposition of an ectopic beat on the T wave of a preceding beat, or simply, R waves interrupting T waves.

In patients, it manifests as premature ventricular beat occurring in early diastole, and in most cases, it leads to serious ventricular arrhythmia or ventricular fibrillation.
