(Science: drug) An alkaloid isolated from cinchona bark. Used as an antimalarial. It is believed to act by raising the pH of endocytotic vesicles and inhibiting internal membrane fusion processes. A bitter alkaloid extracted from chinchona bark; used in malaria therapy.A type of drug extracted from the bark of the cinchona tree which has medicinal value.
