Mendels second law --> law of independent assortment As meiosis ends, genes on a pair of homologous chromosomes have been sorted out for distribution into one gamete or another, independently of gene pairs of other chromosomes.

Different hereditary factors assort independently when the gametes are formed; traits at linked loci are an exception.

Synonym: mendels second law.
