Definition

noun

(1) The process of locating and identifying genes to create a genetic map.

(2) Determination of the relative locus of genes along a chromosome (or plasmid, in case of bacteria).


Supplement

Genome or genetic mapping can be carried out through pedigree analysis, breeding experiments or by modern molecular biology techniques such as in physical mapping.
