Equatorial cleavage

A cleavage in which the plane of cytoplasmic division is at right angles to the axis of the ovum or passing through the embryo's midsection.


For instance in mammals, the first and second cleavage are vertical while the third cleavage is equatorial or at the midsection of the embryo.
