Emphysema

(Science: chest medicine) a pathological accumulation of air in tissues or organs, applied especially to such a condition of the lungs. An abnormal condition of the lungs marked by decreased respiratory function; associated with smoking or chronic bronchitis or old age.A disease which results in the breakdown of lung tissues and can be fatal over the long term.
