Eicosanoids

a class of oxygenated, endogenous, unsaturated fatty acids derived from arachidonic acid. They include prostaglandins, leukotrienes, thromboxanes, and hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid compounds (hete). They are hormone-like substances that act near the site of synthesis without altering functions throughout the body.
