Cellulase

(Science: enzyme) enzymes that break down cellulose and are involved in cell wall breakdown in higher plants, especially during abscission. Produced in large amounts by certain fungi and bacteria.

degradation of cellulose microfibrils requires the concerted action of several cellulases.
