(pathology) An infection caused by the presence of the Candida species, especially in moist cutaneous areas of the body.


Candida species may infect different parts of the human body, such as vagina, vulva, and other mucous membranes. Hence, Candida infections may exist in the following forms:

Although some references consider candidosis as the more correct technical name for this condition other references use the term candidiasis synonymously with candidosis.
