(Science: chemistry, suffix) a suffix used to denote: The nonmetallic, or negative, element or radical in a binary compound; as, oxide, sulphide, chloride. a compound which is an anhydride; as, glycolide, phthalide. Any one of a series of derivatives; as, indogenide, glucoside, etc.
