Weird Biotechnology

Hello!
I am doing an assignment for my Bio class and I need some help. The assignment is called Weird Biotechnology. We need to get an example of something weird and real. We also need to come up with something weird that is fake. We then present it in front of the class. Could anybody provide a link to a weird real biotechnology, and give ideas?

IIRC, around a year ago some Swedish research group published a study where they produced spider silk proteins in cells (I think it was some bacterium), which could then be spun into threads and possibly be used to make e.g. extremely durable ropes or bullet proof vests in the future. Is that weird enough?

Also, plants, beer and mice have been engineered that glow in the dark

You could maybe google for these, cannot recall any urls at the moment. And all the above mentioned should be true as well. Cannot come up any interesting fake ones, though.
