Help identifying this mammal![]() Anyone have an idea what this animal could be? The little information I received claimed it may have been found in southeast China. Thanks in advance for any input.
Re: Help identifying this mammalIt almost looks like an albino red panda... I'm not sure though so don't quote me. Just an idea for some research
Interesting, except it has pigmentation in its fur, ruling out it being albino. Found in Southeast China? Well the red panda is endemic to that area. The tail does not have a ring pattern (as far as I can tell in this picture) and red pandas do. The body of this specimen is longated, and much to ferret like to be a red panda.
I flat out, do not know what this species is however, if possible and you have the opportunitey look up the genus, family of this species and look for other animals within that taxa, you may stumble across it. But my conclusions is that it looks like to be related to ferrets. I get that impression by the stature, elongated snout, whiskers, tail and sleek body that they are related. One thing I can say for sure, is that the hypothesis of this species being a red panda is INCORRECT. If you find out what this species is please post, I am curious. John R. Gallop
