I would like to ask about the function of the neuromelanin in the substantia Nigra in the midbrain

I heard it is a byproduct of dopamine (and epinephrine and norepinephrine) synthesis.

Neuromelanin is an anti-oxidant. It helps protect the neurones from reactive oxygen species like superoxides and peroxides
