Independent Variable names

I am making an Excel graph. My question is creating useful independent variable labels.
My current graph has labels as Tube 1, Tube 2, etc. This is not useful, but the names seem to long to use and still be readable.
I have one test case that is : 10ml 5% glucose and 10 ml yeast at 4 deg C.

How can I enter this as a usable data label ?

Any ideas ?

What is the variable? % glucose, ml glucose, ml yeast, or temp?

Thats the variable. A mixture of 10mL of 5% glucose, and 10 mL of yeast _at_ 4 deg C.
The same test were also done _at_ 20 and 40 deg C.
Also done were mixture of 10 mL starch and 10 mL yeast _at_ 40 C.
Then one was done same as above but with amylase added.
There were few others and a Control.

We were lookng for amount of CO2 generated, so I have a graph with CO2 as the Y axis. Time in minutes as the X axis, and then the data points for the above mentioned test. I just wanted to make more meaningful data labels than Tube 1 Tube 2 etc. But a label like 10mL of 5% glucose, and 10 mL of yeast _at_ 4 deg C looked obnoxious on the graph.
For now I will just use Tube 1-8 with a key.

Anything that remains constant is not a variable. So,
glucose/4 degC would be the 1st one, etc. You remove all information that repeats itself. The chart name should contain additional info. Say, 'Effect of different temp. on carbohydrate metabolism in yeast'. If you want you can include all other info in the graph description.
