Biology Vocabulary..I'm finding it extremely beneficial to know the word parts (i.e. prefix, suffix, root) of any biology term as they all seem to be in exact correlation to them. For example, the word "hydrolysis" means "breaking with water" (hydro= water, lysis=break).
Has anyone here found a good way to study these or a site where you can see the definitions of any possible word part? How do you guys understand a word by simply knowing the word parts? Another example is that "-itis" means inflammation (e.g. arthritis= inflammation of the joints).
Try looking here. This may help.

Are you guys ever concerned about vocabulary pronunciation? Does anyone know how one can accurately pronounce many of the terms?
Re: Biology Vocabulary..For biology, you'll hear every possible pronunciation, and rarely do you hear assertions of what's "correct." But biologists are easy-going that way.
One classic thing for long Latin and sometimes Greek words - back 3 syllables from the end and stress that one. Unless it sounds better another way.
Re: Biology Vocabulary..I agree with Darby, but may I add, at student level, the pronuciation is not important, rather recognizing the root and its meaning.
