Have you ever had your yeast counts checked? I had my checked and were out of control. This is a very big problem with our lifestyles. Not many doctors check this. Causes all of the symptoms we have been discussing.
I've read most of everyone's stories and have to agree that it feels so great to know that I'm not the only one suffering this horrible dilemma. Let me first start off saying this is the first time I'm posting on anything like this, but at this point I am absolutely DESPERATE.
So right now I'm 17. Around a year and a half ago, when I had just turned 16, I was a little overweight. I'd say about 20 pounds heavy, and so I went on a diet. I'd say I lost around 15-20 pounds, give or take. This diet changed my life. I was so ashamed of who I was and what I looked like when I was 16, but after my weight loss I felt like a new person. The thing is, though, around 5 months after I started the diet, I started to starve myself. I would eat nothing for 5, 6 days (absolutely nothing), and then on the 7th day I would binge on everything I saw, except the junk foods (chips, ice cream, etc.). I maintained SOME dignity and stayed far away from the junk foods. Everything I ate ranged from bowls and bowls of cereal, sandwiches upon endless sandwiches, chicken (and tons of it), any assortment of meat I could find in my fridge...you name it, I ate it. And then the day after that, I'd starve myself for another week. 7 days after that, I'd binge again. This same routine continued for about 2 months. During this time I became extremely depressed. I WAS losing weight, but not as I had been when I had first started my diet. I began to grow pale, my friends would ask me what was wrong, I began to grow incredibly weak...it was horrible. Soon after this, I had become even more depressed. Food was the only thing on my mind. During school, I wouldn't be paying attention during class. I would be carefully planning out my weekend binge. What I would eat for breakfast, what I would eat for lunch...it was a very careful routine I planned out well ahead of time. It wasn't until the end of this that I noticed I started to bloat. Now, I realize that this starvation of mine followed by my huge overeating would probably be a definite cause of my bloating, but I'm no doctor, and I'm gonna be honest when I say that I know absolutely nothing about this "IBS" or "Candida" or whatever. All I know is that soon, even if I had eaten one grape or one piece of bread, my stomach would bloat up. Like you ladies, I'd begin looking like I was 6 months pregnant. That was when I came to my senses and stopped. I started eating like a normal human being. I was good for a year. I had normal eating habits, and I wouldn't starve myself or over-eat. At all. This didn't help with the bloating though. Still, after every single thing I ate, I bloated like a madman. The bloating did reduce a bit though, but not as much.
But, over the past few months (ever since school started, really), I have been experiencing extreme stress with school, work, and family. I started eating a lot. I gained probably around 6-9 pounds, I'm not sure (I have not weighed myself since I was 16 years old and before I had lost all my weight...I try to stay away from scales). So when new years came around I vowed to myself that I would lose the weight I gained, and this time do it in a healthy way. I did not want to go through what I did last year, feeling like a dead person every day and feeling like I was going to faint even after taking one step out of bed in the morning. So, for the past 3 weeks or so I have started a new diet. I have lost maybe around 4 pounds, probably less. I am going extremely slow with it. Recently, though, I've noticed that my stomach expansion after every meal (even after eating, say, one banana) has increased by a huge degree. I don't know what's wrong with me. Every time I reach the point where I feel very good about myself and my body, my self esteem lowers hugely after every glance in the mirror. I wake up in the morning, examine my stomach in the mirror and note that it is perfectly flat. I look at myself in the mirror and think: "Hey girl you are gorgeous!" This all changes by breakfast, though. Typically at breakfast I'll eat one banana and one yogurt, and before I leave to school I have an examination of my stomach. Unlucky for me, by the time breakfast comes and goes, my stomach has expanded to the point where I look 6 months pregnant. I don't want to go through this again. I want to lose weight again (am desperate to lose wight), but no matter how hard I try, my stomach just refuses to co-operate! I am absolutely OFF of bread, the regular junk foods, cereal even, etc. etc. My meals these days consist of: A huge dose of fruits and veggies my mom makes for me (and I mean a HUGE dose), a yogurt a day, lots of soup, and, of course, the one, the only, water. No matter what I eat, though, my stomach bloats like a balloon on rampage. I don't know what to do. I feel like a fat cow every night, even if I've hardly eaten anything all day. I feel like I'm going nowhere with this diet. I don't want to go back to how it was before (the starvation), because I know that's probably what started this all (again, I'm no doctor), but at this point I see no other way. Maybe a change of foods? I don't know. The only thing that keeps my stomach neutral is...that's the thing...nothing! I need help, bad. I understand most of you probably think I'm a stupid and self-conscious teenager, but it's not my weight I'm really upset about. I'm not fat, by any means, and I'm not overweight by any means, I just want to lose the weight I gained over the past few months. It's just this bloating that is getting me insane! In the morning I'm flat and pretty, by the time I go out at night I can't even put on a tight shirt because it looks like I'm about to give birth! These days I've prepared myself for nights like these and just refuse to eat the day I know I'm going to go out...at this point it is the only thing that works.
I have not had any tests done because I honestly don't think that there is anything wrong with me. I have not experienced the symptoms any of you have experienced, except for the fact that ever since my weight loss last year my menstrual cramps have stopped altogether. I used to have the most unbearable cramps imagineable, and my flow used to be quite heavy. Since I lost my weight, my cramps have stopped altogether (I have been cramp-free for one year!), and my period has been considerably lighter. This probably relates with my weight loss (I am so ignorant when it comes to things like this, I'm sorry!), so I'm not worried. But I will say this - when I had first started my diet last year, at the beginning I would not take a number 2 (classic teenaged cliches, I'm sorry) for a week. This happened for one month, and then it went back to normal. The same has happened now. I did not take a number 2 for one week last week, and have not taken one for 4 days since then. I'm not sure if this relates to anything, I'm just throwing it out there. Bananas, apples, and grapes make my stomach GO CRAZY and typically they make me extremely constipated, but no matter how constipated I get I just can't take a number 2. I dunno where I'm going with this, but other than that there is nothing wrong with me physically, I am sure of it. My mom is anemic but I don't think that's a problem with me at all. I am a perfectly healthy teenager and have never had any bad health problems in my whole life.
I just want any advice at all. ANY. I can't eat anything. I've been dieting for weeks, but after one grape, it looks like I've gained a good 10 pounds! My twin is the skinniest thing you will see in your life. She is known for it. She can eat 5 big macs in one day, added with a couple bags of chips and 2 bowls of ice cream, and she will not gain one pound. Her stomach will not expand one inch. I don't understand it, at all. I know everyone's body is different, but comon! Any advice to minimize this bloating would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you so much, and good luck to everyone!
Last night I spent hours reading all of these posts. I am determined to find a solution.
My weird swelling/bloated started when I spent two months in Hawaii about a year ago. If I eat a peanut I feel worse than Thanksgiving. I thought maybe I have some weird bacteria or parasite from being in the water everyday. But, this morning when I used my tooth-whitening hydrogen peroxide-based mouth rinse, I realized I started using this stuff when I was in Hawaii. Could it be that it is killing all kinds of good stuff needed for digestion? Or reacting to the food I injest and expodes in my stomach? Or who knows what? I am wondering if any one else uses some kind of tooth-whitening stuff.
Anyway, I am eliminating it from my oral health care routine to see what happens.
Anyone else out there have any thoughts?
I have at severe bloating for 2 years. I am on my third GI doctor and third Gyno. I have 5 scopes up and down, test for my pancreas, I do not have a gallbladder. I have had the test pill no result. Right now my current GI has me on Pig enzymes, I have been on it for a week no help though. I have been tested for dairy, latose and wheat, all normal. I am usually looked as if I am pregnant. Little kids think I am pregnant, grown up would not ask. I am 42 year old female, I don't have any ovaries problem, so my Gyno said it not that. I have had several scan on my ovaries so results. I have also been on fertility a lot in my life, I had trouble with pregnancy. I have kidney stones and my urog. says this is not related.
I have good days and mostly bad. Doctors don't believe me, they think IBS and have said I am just Fat. I do get pain some times quite severe, but it alway subsides. Once I did go to the ER with it and they said it was reaction to activia, I tried it to see if I helped, it didn't. The Er doc said if to my husband I should keep persuing this until I find the problem.
I have seen on this site, something about gastric emptying scan, I am going to talk to my gi about this.
IF any body any other information I would greatly appreciate it.
I have had the same problem for a few years. I also have urinary freqency and pain in my bladder. I was diagnosed with I C but I beleive it is more than that, that does not explain the consitpation or extreme bloating. I was just told by a friend to get checked for Celiac Disease. Many of the symtoms we all have. Here is a link to expain wha tit is
Are you saying you have no gallbladder? If that is the case, then you have to pay very close attention to not eating any fatty foods, like frenchfries, milk, butter, etc... It is very difficult to always monitor your food, but this is an adjustment you must make. I assume you have made these dietary changes, and I suspect the lack of a gallbladder has complicated your life in a big way. Sorry you have to go through this.
I have the dreaded stomach bloat but unlike most of you women I also look 9 months pregrant but i am male. Have tried looking at what I eat, drink etc. I have even given up smoking and alcohol only to be told by my friends that my 'beer gut' is getting bigger.
I am 50 years old and am even exercising. I do abdom exercises that i used to do when I was younger and boxing, still nothing.
I am going back to the doctor with a copy of all the replies and highlight every sympton that I have in common with others.
Docs love putting under the umbrella of IBS or ulcer. Well it isn't so what is it?
Let you know how it turns out.
If you don't have a gall bladder, you can still eat fats, just not too much because your liver will still produce bile.

For those of you suffering from extreme bloating without pain also accompanied by weight gain, I suffer this as well. One thing I have noticed might be a problem for me is eating white breads. I noticed now, twice, that my tummy immediately grows after I ingest bread items (garlic bread, pastas, etc.). I am personally going to try to cut out white breads and pastas and see what it might do for me. I will respond back if this is the cure for me.
Your comment regarding antibiotics is interesting. In the past I visited an MD that practiced alternative medicine (Dr Ralph Lee in Marietta, Ga) . After blood work he diagnosed me with candida (overgrowth of yeast) He put me on a STRICT diet (so much so that even though I had GREAT success I am now having a hard time getting back on the program) I had to cut out ALL refined carb's (& VERY limited "good" carb's) , NO sugar of ANY kind (not even fructose), NO fruit for several months (then slowly reincorporate into diet but NO juices-ONLY fresh fruit), NO dairy except for yogurt (then had to be organic, no sugar, etc added), NO condiments unless I made them myself, only home made salad dressings, no cheese or mushrooms (due to fungul). Basically NO processed chemicals/ingredients. You can google search for candida diets/recipes. The library also has books on this. He put me on a prescription Nystatin (tastes like clay - horrible), powdered (expensive) acidopholus & supplements for candida, colon cleansers, etc & I did have to be on Armour thyroid for a period of time (my thyroids were producing the TH's but the candida was "blocking" it from being utilized by my cells). I NEVER felt better. Lost weight, energy level skyrocketed, & most of all my cravings for sweets, carb's etc were gone after a couple weeks.
